The Mutual System

Many Hands Make Light Work

The mutual insurance system in Ontario has been built and backed by collaboration and partnership. We are proud to partner with and thrive alongside the following organizations.

Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA)

Ontario Mutuals, established in 1882, are independent, 100% Canadian property and casualty insurance companies. With no shareholders, Ontario Mutuals fosters a vibrant community focus, where policyholders become members and owners, united in their commitment to the greater good.

From humble beginnings in fire insurance, they’ve evolved into sophisticated providers of home, auto, commercial, and farm insurance. OMIA, their trade association, supports over 35 independent Canadian Mutual insurance companies across Ontario, offering leadership and guidance in navigating market issues. Member company directors and staff have the opportunity though OMIA, to exchange ideas and best practices, embodying their motto of “We’re in this together.” Learn More

As a reinsurer, they help mutual insurers keep their promises, providing financial stability and insurance capacity as well as expertise in insurance product development, analytics, claims management and loss control.
