As you may be aware, there is a Canada Post strike effective September 26. We
want to let you know about how service disruptions could affect our business
operations, along with some best practices to help reduce the impact.
During this period, there will be no postal service delivery. To minimize business
interruptions, we are implementing the following change to our operations:
Making Payments
To avoid delays, please do not mail cheques during a strike. Instead, you can make your payments through one of these convenient options:
- Online payment
- E-transfer
- Through your bank
- Dropping off a cheque at any HD Mutual office

Please remember: You’re still responsible for ensuring payments are made on time, even if reminder notices are not mailed.
Policy Cancellations and Notices
- Policy cancellations due to non-payment will continue as usual.
- Any legal notices will be delivered by courier instead of regular mail.
- Refund cheques will be held until postal services resume or can be arranged for pick up at an HD Mutual office upon request.
Claims Payments
We’ll use Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) for claims payments wherever possible to reduce delays. If a cheque is needed, it will not be mailed—you can coordinate pick-up through your adjuster.
Receiving Policy Documents
- All new and updated policy documents will still be processed as usual.
- Documents will be held securely and delivered once mail service resumes.
- Digital copies can be requested from your agent or broker and are recommended during the strike.
- If needed, you can request printed copies for pick-up.
